The Application Process

  • We don't accept speculative applications sent by email. Please use the Connect button to register your interest in job alerts and you can leave your CV there too.

  • Please fill in a short form with your details, attach a CV and send us a covering letter addressing the criteria for the job. Please don't send CVs by email.

  • We include all the main information in the job advertisements, but if you still have a question which hasn't been answered, please contact the person named in the advert by email.

  • We won't usually contact referees until we offer you a job and we contact them by email. Offers of employment are made subject to two references which we're happy with.

  • We aren't licenced to sponsor employees for visas, so can't offer sponsorship for roles. You will need to have, or be able to obtain, right to work in the UK or Ireland to take up our jobs. If you want to know more about right to work issues, please visit https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas

All job offers are made subject to providing proof of the right to work before you can start work with us.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

  • The environment sector does not reflect the make-up of the population, and if we can help change that, we will have a broader reach, contribute to a more equitable society and acheive our goals more quickly. We need to keep track of how we are doing in terms of attracting and selecting cross-sections of the population and making changes to how we recruit.

The form isn't seen by the hiring panel and plays no part in the selection process. You can of course choose not to fill it in or to prefer not to say to any questions you don't feel comfortable answering.

  • Absolutely! Please contact the named contact in the advert or the HR Manager michelle.sharman@theriverstrust.org and we'll do our best to help.

  • Hiring managers shortlist with at least one other person to provide a different perspective.

Managers conduct anonymised shortlisting through our recruitment system so they can't see any personal details.

We guarantee an interview to applicants who meet the job criteria and declare a disability in their applications.

Flexible Working

  • Yes! Flexible working is important at the Rivers Trust and we are happy to talk flexible working during recruitment.

We don't work in a head office and our employees live all over the UK and Ireland. All of our roles are home-based, many are remote, and all are at least hybrid.

If it's a remote role, there may still be occasional team meetings and in-person events.

If it's hybrid, it will require visits to member trusts, farms, events or other sites - we will outline these cases in adverts and discuss more at interview.

Time off in lieu is also available by agreement with the your line manager during exceptionally busy periods.

You can also work a nine-day fortnight as a default if that works best for you, using compressed hours.

We are flexible about when you work as long as it meets the needs of your role. We are also happy to talk through adjustments to working hours to suit disabilities or caring responsibilities during recruitment.

  • We are growing fast and setting up systems to support people - we have a buddying system for new starters, informal ways of keeping in touch online, and have regional and national meet-ups which we encourage people to come to.

Data

  • 12 months is the usual length of time. If you want to delete it earlier, you can log into the system to do so.

The Interview Process

  • All interviews are carried out remotely.

Application Outcomes & Feedback

  • We regret that we can't give feedback to applicants because of the volume of applications we get.

  • Yes, we appreciate the interest of everyone who applies to us and will let everyone know the outcome.

  • We usually call people and follow up by email. All job offers are made subject to you providing proof of the right to work - we'll run a digital check after making the offer.

Work Experience & Early Careers

  • Please use the Connect button to leave your details, and make it clear it's work experience you're looking for.
